The business of sport

Running a tournament that pays its way.

How do I plan a small tournament?
Fix the date, venue, format and rules first; set a realistic entry fee; recruit officials; publish fixtures; record every result with names; announce winners publicly. Our business advisory page has a full checklist.
Where does the money come from?
Usually a mix of entry fees, sponsorship, ticketing or spectator fees, food and merchandise sales, and media. Keep a simple budget and record every shilling in and out.
Do I need permission?
Sports organisations and events in Tanzania may need registration or approval from the National Sports Council (BMT) and local authorities. Confirm the current requirements with them before you advertise.
